A Ribbon Blender machine consists of a horizontal trough with a central shaft and a helical ribbon agitator. Mixing results from the turbulence induced by counteracting Ribbons. There are two sets of Counteracting Ribbons - Outer Ribbon, Inner Ribbon. Both ribbons mounted on the same shaft. Ribbons has close Trough clearance which provides a region of high shear force near the wall thereby achieving both bulk blending and dispersive mixing.

Ribbons are design to obtain complete and thorough mixing. Ribbon Blender mixer is designed in such a way that along with vertical movement, material to be mixed will have to and fro motion. Diametric size of the ribbon keeps some proportion with the volume of the vessel so that the power required to drive the machine will be less. The ribbon causes all the material to circulate using only 5%of the power needed by the turbine.
